Bocas Del Toro Community Development

 

 

 

Project Description

The Bocas del Toro Project takes place on Isla Colon and surrounding islands. The community hopes to develop to improve the infrastructure of educational facilities and to promote eco friendy solutions for for problems related to increasing tourism, waste disposal and beach debris . There is also a sea turtle preservation project and other local initiatives. Volunteers wil help support ongoing efforts in the local communities.

Accommodation

Participants will stay in a local hotel four per room with all of the usual amenities and meals will be served at a local restaurant.

  • Day 8 Depart Bocas del Toro, Panama

Rest and Recreation

Bocas del Toro is a recreational paradise with great snorkeling, beautiful beaches, and great surfing.

Project Service Fee

The One Week Project Service Fee is $885.00 per person. This includes all in country transportation, insurance, accommodations, meals, bilingual guide, tools and equipment, project coordination, mid project recreation activities. (International airfare is not included.)

Sustainable Development

     

General Information

Community Collaborations Sustainable Development Projects provide volunteers to support local communities in creating sustainable projects that bring income to poor rural communities and help to save the environment. Projects include trail building, cabin construction, bridge building, fabricating and installing interpretive signage, and support for organic agriculture.

8 Day Project Schedule

  • Day 1 Depart USA
  • Day 2 - 6 Sustainable Development Project
  • Day 7 Recreation Day
  • Day 8 Return to USA

Accommodations

Volunteers will stay volunteer facilities that have been inspected and approved by CCI. In order to be approved facilities must have the following;

  • Safe and clean sleeping areas
  • Clean and functional bathroom facilities
  • Showers
  • Sanitary food services
  • Access to medical support
  • Bathroom Facilities
  • Onsite communications
  • Electricity
  • Fresh water

Rest and Recreation

The recreation program will vary based on the location of your project. Possible activities include rainforest hiking, rafting, surfing, snorkeling and horseback riding. The mid-program recreational trip is included in the program fee.

Project Service Fee

The One Week Project Service Fee is $885.00 per person. This includes all in-country transportation, accommodations, meals, bilingual guide, tools and equipment, project coordination, mid program recreation trip, and end of project party.

Fair Trade Impact

General Information

Community Collaborations Fair Trade Impact Exploration projects visit fair trade cooperatives and communities in producer countries. Volunteers meet with fair trade farmers and artisans to explore the impact of fair trade policies and complete projects that benefit the communities. Projects in Costa Rica, Nicaragua,and Guatemala focus on Fair Trade Coffee, the Panama Project is focused on Fair Trade Cocoa.

Project Schedule

  • Saturday Morning: Arrive International Airport
  • Sunday : Orientation, Fair Trade Meeting, Dinner with speaker from Fair Trade Coop
  • Monday: Transfer to Coffee Community, Meeting with Growers
  • Tuesday - Thursday- Coffee Community Projects
  • Friday- Recreation Activity
  • Saturday- Transfer to International Airport (end of program)

Requirements

  • Passport
  • Signed volunteer agreement
  • Be in good physical condition to walk 5 to 10 miles
  • No abuse of illegal drugs; no consumption of alcohol during working hours or abuse of alcohol at any time
  • Service fee paid
  • At least of 16 years old

Recreation Activity

Each Fair Trade Exploration project includes a recreational opportunity that supports local sustainable tourism businesses who provide opportunities for a variety of activities such as rainforest hiking, canopy tours, trips to waterfalls,volcano trips, beach trips, and horseback riding.

Project Service Fee

The project service fee of $885 covers:

  • All lodging
  • All meals
  • All in-country transportation
  • All recreational activities
  • In-country bilingual coordinator
